Welcome!
My name is Mere and I am the founder and owner of The Collected Canine! I have been a dog lover since the time I could walk and have immersed myself in many different dog-related jobs over the years including dog grooming, animal care attendant with the SPCA, and reception for a Guelph vet clinic.
My husband and I also share our home with 4 lovely rescued dogs (Lola, Kenny, Hank and Bug), and 3 rescued cats (Reggie, Bender and Scarlett). Our home is busy but so full of fun with our furry family members.
In 2018 my husband and I took over a busy family-owned dog walking business in Bradford, West Gwillimbury. One of the services we offered were doggy play groups; we would take small groups of social dogs to our family property and have them play and socialize with each other. I learned so much more about dog-dog interactions and absolutely loved picking up on the subtle cues dogs use to communicate with each other. Dogs are incredible communicators!
My more formal education includes the completion of the dog trainer program with Animal Behaviour College, the professional dog training program through the Canine Academy (Milton), a Puppy Foundations certificate with the Karen Pryor Academy, and I have more recently completed two very intensive apprenticeship programs with K9 Academy, Toronto and Mindful Dog Co., Uxbridge!
I am also a team member with an incredible Ontario dog rescue, Rebel Dog Rescue. I volunteer as an adoption lead and a training consultant. In rescue we tend to see a lot of scared and anxious dogs and I am consistently drawn to these souls; there is nothing more heart warming than seeing a once fearful and nervous dog become confident and curious about their world.
